The Cancer Society of New Zealand
is a national body made up of 6 six independently run regional
divisions.
The Cancer Society's mission is to minimise the impact of cancer
on our community. Work focuses on evidence-based health promotion
and education, research, advocacy, information and support to
provide quality of life for people affected by cancer.
The Wellington Division is a volunteer-based charitable body
operating from a main office in Wellington and centre offices
in Nelson, Marlborough, Wairarapa and Kapiti. First established
in December 1929, the Division is managed by a voluntary executive
committee and a small number of staff.
A strong contingent of volunteers also lend their support, including
three auxiliaries in the Hutt, Waikanae and Kapi Mana areas.
The Wellington Division is an incorporated society with charitable
trust status. It relies solely on donations to continue its
services. It does not receive government funding. Donations
come principally by legacies, mail appeals, Daffodil Day and
other fundraising activities. |
