:: Workshop Calendar ::
What is it?
A wide range of supportive programmes, workshops and educational sessions which aim to assist people to be supported both emotionally and socially in their journey with cancer. Our programmes are intended to be in addition to, and supportive of, conventional medical treatments.

Who can attend?
Anyone who is currently in treatment or those who have received treatment anytime in the last 3 years. Also open to all those supporting people with cancer and those who may be supporting someone from a distance.

How do I enrol?
Most sessions are FREE. However, you do need to enrol in all programmes as dates and venues may change. All classes have a minimum and maximum size. To enrol: ring Sue Corkill on 389-8421 or email: suec@cancersoc.org.nz unless an alternative is given.

Lebed Method of Movement and Dance - with Di Graham and Naena Chhima Saturdays: 9-10am, at the Aro St Community Hall or Mondays: 6 - 7pm at Thistle Hall (Courses ongoing throughout the year)

The Lebed Method class is a series of weekly exercises, specifically designed to work the whole body. The exercises particularly emphasize opening the lymphatic drainage routes to move stagnant fluid. It involves a number of enjoyable, yet slow and gentle movements to music. These classes are open to anyone recovering from cancer surgery of any type, cancer related fatigue or lymphoedema.

Genetics BRCA Day: a workshop for people at high risk of breast and ovarian cancer and their families. Saturday, May 10th, 10am - 4pm Cancer Society Rooms, Newtown.

This workshop is a jointly run by the Central Regional Genetic Service and the Cancer Society - Wellington Division and is an informative and supportive day about surveillance, risk-reducing surgery and the psychological impact of living with an increased risk of cancer.

Headways Workshop - with Pip Murdoch Date: 2 Monday evenings, 12th & 19th May, 7-9pm Venue: Cancer Society Rooms

This is a 2 week seminar for people who are coping with a diagnosis of a brain tumour and /or their carers. The two weeks will cover issues of diagnosis and treatment, practical help, financial concerns and support. Interest will also be ascertained in a support group.

Laughter, the Best Medicine - with Lee Hatherly Date: Thursdays, starting 12th June, 11am until 1pm (including lunch). Venue: Cancer Society Rooms

Just the ticket for those cold winter months. Humour is a wonderful medium to help us all relax and look at the world in a different way. Lee has many different techniques to share with you including laughter yoga. Boost your endorphins with laughter and banish those winter blues. One of the 6 sessions will be held at the Time Cinema in Island Bay.

Lymphoedema Support and Education Workshop - with Di Graham 2 Saturday mornings, 14th and 21st June 11am-12.30. Venue: Cancer Society Rooms.

Lymphoedema can affect anyone who has had their lymph glands surgically removed. These sessions provide valuable information about preventing or coping with lymphoedema. Led by Di Graham who is a certified lymphoedema therapist. Interested partners and friends welcome.
