Exercise is good for health and stress relief. Many people
lose a lot of their fitness during their cancer treatment
and it can be very difficult to know where to start again,
especially when coming to terms with body changes. These programmes
give people, following their cancer treatment, a safe and
gentle start to exercise.

HYDROTHERAPY
The Cancer Society funds, for up to 3 months, a hydrotherapy
exercise programme for people with cancer. This is done through
the Sports-Wide Clinic.
Who can do it?
If you had a diagnosis of cancer, or recurrence of cancer,
within the last 3 years you may join the hydrotherapy programme.
You must have a medical clearance first. We advise you not
to start the hydrotherapy exercise programme until you have
completed your therapy.
The Exercises
The exercises have been adapted from traditional hydrotherapy
exercises. These include:
- Modern dance and ballet bar exercises
- Track and field limbering and running form exercise drill
outlines
- Aqua-aerobics and aerobic moves
- Free weights and weight pulley machine exercise
What happens after 3 months?
At the end of the 3 months an assessment is done and sent to
your GP, specialist and the Cancer Society. You can then join
the Sports-Wide gym at your own expense.
