Massages are available to all people with cancer and their
caregivers, at the Cancer Society Rooms, Newtown.
Cancer affects not only the body, but the mind, heart and
soul too. The beneficial effects of massage can be experienced
by both body and mind. People may sleep better, have an increase
in appetite and energy, and experience less pain. Muscle stiffness
may be relieved, circulation improved and feelings of nausea
reduced. Tension and anxiety is lessened.
Massage involves gentle stroking and kneading movements combined
with gentle finger pressure on certain parts of the body.
Essential oils enhance the effect of the massage and gentle
music assists relaxation. Only light pressure should be used.
There may be times, especially during treatment, when it
is better not to massage some part of your body. The massage
should avoid that area. Ask your doctor before starting massages.
The massage sessions should soothe and calm you. The focus
should be on your comfort and relaxation.
Cost
$25.00 for waged clients and $10.00 for unwaged. (Massages
are subsidised by the Wellington Division.)
