The Wellington Division offers a wide range of support

:: Emotional Support ::

Counselling
We can arrange counselling for people with cancer and their caregivers. This is provided by social work counsellors from:

  • The Wellington Cancer Centre
  • The Cancer Society
  • Private counsellors in your area

Referrals to this service can be made directly by calling 04 3890053. If you wish to make your own appointment call us on 04 3898421. You do not need a doctor's referral.

People seek counselling for a number of difficulties ranging from depression to relationship problems. Concerns in relation to cancer can vary from money worries, to coping with illness, to facing death. The ability to cope with cancer is often directly influenced by how much practical and emotional support people are given. Some people find that they require greater emotional assistance on a 'one-to-one' level at certain times, for instance, when newly diagnosed, receiving treatment or if their cancer returns.

Art Therapy
You can see an Art Therapist for the same reasons you would see a counsellor. You don't need to be an artist. Everybody can use Art Therapy. It uses colour, paint and clay as tools for expression, relaxation and accessing inner resources. Surprising insights can emerge. It is an excellent method to connect with yourself and gain strength. Often people feel more hopeful and at peace after an Art Therapy session.

Contact Reception 04 389 8421 for information. The charge is $25.00 waged, or $10.00 unwaged.
