Thank you to all supporters and volunteers for Daffodil Day 2007. Final results will be announced soon. Congratulations and thank you to all The National Bank staff who raised $1,070,000!

Each year the Cancer Society runs fundraising events to raise awareness of our work and to raise much needed funds. There are many ways that you can take part in our special events.

Daffodil Day is a major fundraiser for the Cancer Society and is now in its 17th year in New Zealand. In partnership with our Principal Sponsor The National Bank it continues to provide significant income streams that assist us in minimising the impact of cancer on our community.

The Daffodil is the first flower to bloom in spring, representing hope and renewal of life. It has been adopted as the international symbol of hope for people affected by cancer, their carers and the wider community. On Daffodil Day we raise funds to support our hope for a cancer-free future.

At the turn of the last century, people with cancer faced almost certain death. Now, thanks to continuing improvement in research and patient care, more than 50 per cent of people diagnosed with cancer will recover. This progress is celebrated on Daffodil Day.

Daffodil Day originated by the Canadian Cancer Society in the 1980's. Daffodil Day is now run by cancer not-for-profit organisations in seven western countries and it has given the Daffodil international significance as an accepted and positive symbol for the heroic efforts made by cancer patients. Daffodil Day is always the last Friday in August and volunteers assist in the diverse and many roles required to ensure its success.
